The site is a 20-block area located along the western bank of the Great Miami River. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs), primarily the common industrial chemicals PCE and TCE, have contaminated groundwater, soil, and indoor air in some homes and businesses. The contamination is present in two separate VOC plumes - “Residential" plume and “East Water Street” plume.
Key components of the remedial action include:
- Coordinating with neighboring property owners for access to additional contaminated areas.
- Excavating soil contaminated with PCE above 44 μ g/kg and TCE above 34 μ g/kg.
- Maintaining the structural integrity of an occupied building, active rail line, and levee system during site excavation and backfilling activities.
- Performing confirmation sampling to verify RALs are met
- Transporting and disposing excavated soil and debris at an off - site facility.
- Backfilling and restoring the property.
