Environmental Remediation

Trusted Environmental Restoration Across the Nation

Arrowhead Contracting has over 34 years of experience delivering complex environmental remediation projects for federal clients including the EPA, USACE, NASA, and more . We’ve worked on several of the nation’s most challenging hazardous waste sites, including remote Superfund locations and radiologically contaminated lands. From contaminated soil excavation to the design and implementation of groundwater remediation systems, we restore impaired environments with safety, compliance, and lasting impact.

Our teams have the experience and training to perform across a full spectrum of environmental challenges, with the ability to mobilize rapidly, self-perform work, and manage complex, multi-stakeholder sites. Arrowhead understands the high standards of environmental compliance, health and safety, and community engagement required under these high-risk projects.

Proven Performance on Superfund Sites

Arrowhead has successfully delivered high-impact remediation solutions at Superfund sites across the U.S., balancing technical execution with stakeholder trust and safety. Our Superfund experience includes both large-scale excavation programs and long-term groundwater treatment system construction and operation.

Excavation, Transport, & Disposal

At the Cove Transfer Station Superfund Site in Arizona, Arrowhead is serving as the prime contractor on a complex, radiologically contaminated site at the Cove Transfer Station Superfund Site in northeast Arizona. The site, located in a remote area of the Navajo Nation, requires culturally sensitive coordination, tribal stakeholder engagement, and precision execution across rugged terrain.

Arrowhead implemented on-site material sorting, segregation, and volume reduction strategies to support safe and efficient radiological remediation. Our approach prioritized logistics, air monitoring, and radiation controls to minimize off-site impacts and ensure compliance throughout the project’s duration. We coordinated all transportation and disposal activities, working closely with licensed facilities to manage radiologically impacted soils in accordance with regulatory requirements.

At the Newton County Mine Tailings Superfund Site in southeast Missouri, Arrowhead was responsible for one of the largest mine reclamation projects in the Midwest, with more than 1.5 million cubic yards of lead- and zinc-contaminated soils removed across a 300-square-mile area. The site involved more than a dozen separate removal locations, each requiring unique coordination with private property owners, community groups, and EPA Region 7.

Our scope included full-scale excavation, hauling, and placement of impacted material into engineered repositories, as well as the restoration of residential properties, parks, and public spaces. Arrowhead worked closely with state and local agencies to execute high-volume operations while minimizing disruption to surrounding neighborhoods.

Groundwater Remediation Systems

Arrowhead also has extensive experience operating and maintaining Groundwater Remediation Systems under long-term federal oversight. At the Crossley Farm Superfund Site in Pennsylvania, Arrowhead performed construction support and ongoing O&M for a groundwater treatment plant designed to remediate a deep fractured bedrock aquifer contaminated with TCE and PCE. The system includes multiple extraction wells, air stripping and carbon filtration treatment trains, and infiltration galleries with NPDES-permitted discharge.

We have supported upgrades and expansions to the Crossley Farm system, including Source Area integration, treatment building retrofits, and process optimization in collaboration with EPA Region 3 and PADEP. Our team’s work has contributed to significant contaminate source reduction and continued protectiveness of human health and the environment.
