KAJV Awarded 57th and N. Broadway Project in Wichita, KS

KEMRON - Arrowhead JV (KAJV), a joint venture between Overland Park, KS - based Arrowhead Contracting and Atlanta, GA - based KEMRON Environmental Services, Inc. was selected through a competitive procurement for award of a performance - based contract providing remediation services at the 57th and North Broadway Superfund Site located in Wichita, KS.

The 57th and North Broadway Superfund Site was placed on the NPL in November of 1992.  Contaminated media at the site incl udes soil and groundwater. The primary Contaminants of Concern are tetrachloroethene (PCE), trichloroethene (TCE), 1,1 dichloroethene (1,1 - DCE), cis - 1,2 - dichloroethene (cis - 1,2 - l,2 - DCE), vinyl chloride (VC), and 1,4 - dioxane. Key components of the remedial action include:
  • Construction of a groundwater extraction and treatment system in the downgradient  portion of the plume to provide a hydraulic barrier preventing further migration of the contaminated groundwater and to actively restore the aquifer to its be neficial reuse as a drinking water source.
  • Excavation and off - site disposal of contaminated soils from Allen's Salvage Yard and the Former Midland Refinery property.
  • Application of activated sodium persulfate to the base of the excavation providing treat ment of the upgradient portion of the groundwater plume.
  • Groundwater monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of the remedy.
The project will be carried out as a task order under the EPA CLIN  -  2 Remediation Environmental Services ID/IQ Program. The task ord er will be administered by EPA Region VII. The contract has a 48-month Period of Performance. The project value is approximately $26M.
