EPA Selects KEMRON-Arrowhead JV for Award of the Southside Chattanooga Lead Superfund Site in Chattanooga, TN
KEMRON-Arrowhead JV (KAJV), a joint venture between Arrowhead Contracting, LLC and KEMRON Environmental Services, Inc, has been selected through a competitive best-value procurement for award of a task order to provide residential remediation services at the Southside Chattanooga Lead Site (SCLS) in Chattanooga, TN.The SCLS encompasses eight residential neighborhoods containing lead contamination in surface soils affecting residential properties and non-residential child high-impact areas. The contamination is attributed to past foundry operations from the middle of the 19th century to the late 20th century, when approximately 60 foundries operated in Chattanooga. These foundries produced iron and brass cast products using sand molds, generating waste products containing elevated concentrations of lead and other metals.
Under the four-year contract, KAJV will excavate, transport, and dispose of lead-contaminated soil at 1270 properties. Each property will then receive clean backfill and be restored to original condition. Other features of work include development of project planning documents, bilingual community outreach, pre-construction soil sampling, data management, and final report preparation.
The project will be carried out as a task order under the EPA CLIN-2 Remediation Environmental Services (RES) ID/IQ Program and will be administered by EPA Region 4. The contract value is approximately $100M.
